LPG Endermologie
Weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro, Wegovy and Ozempic are changing lives, and for many people they also change the face. Cheeks can look hollow, skin can look looser around the jaw and neck, and some people say they look older or more tired than they feel. This guide explains what Mounjaro face is, why it happens, how to reduce it and which treatments can help.
A no-needle facial treatment for firmer skin, at our Chiswick clinic. Your first LPG Endermologie visit is a 60-minute Discovery Session for £99, face and body included. Book online or call 020 4515 0000.
Quick answer
Mounjaro face is an informal name for the hollow, saggy or aged look some people notice after losing weight quickly on tirzepatide (Mounjaro) or semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic). It is not caused by the medicine damaging the face: it happens because fat is lost from the face as well as the body, faster than the skin can adapt. Losing weight more gradually, eating enough protein, strength training and protecting your skin all help, and treatments that stimulate collagen can firm skin that has become loose.
What is Mounjaro face?
Mounjaro face, Ozempic face and Wegovy face all describe the same thing: changes to the face after significant weight loss on GLP-1 medicines. It is not a medical diagnosis. People most often notice:
- Hollower cheeks and temples
- Deeper lines from the nose to the mouth
- Softer, looser skin along the jaw, creating jowls
- Loose or crepey skin on the neck
- Skin that looks duller or more tired
Why does it happen?
The face has several pads of fat that give it shape and support the skin. When you lose weight, you lose some of that facial fat too. On weight-loss injections, weight often comes off faster than with diet alone, so the skin has less time to shrink back over the smaller shape underneath.
Several things make the change more noticeable:
- How much and how quickly you lose. Larger and faster losses leave more skin without support.
- Age. From our mid-twenties the skin makes less collagen and elastin each year, so it recoils less well.
- Sun damage and smoking. Both break down collagen.
- Muscle loss. Eating very little can mean losing muscle as well as fat, which affects shape everywhere, including the face and neck.
- Dehydration. A small appetite can mean drinking less, and dehydrated skin looks duller and more lined.
Is Mounjaro face permanent?
It depends. Some of the tired, dull look improves once weight stabilises, eating and drinking return to normal and the skin has time to remodel, which continues for months. Volume that has been lost from the face does not come back on its own unless weight is regained, and skin that has lost a lot of elasticity may stay looser. The earlier you support your skin, the better.
How to reduce the risk of Mounjaro face
- Lose weight steadily. Talk to your prescriber about the dose and pace that suit you, rather than aiming for the fastest possible loss.
- Eat enough protein at every meal, even when your appetite is low, to protect muscle and give the skin the building blocks it needs.
- Do resistance exercise two or three times a week to keep muscle.
- Drink enough water through the day.
- Use sunscreen daily and do not smoke.
- Look after your skin with a simple routine. Ingredients such as retinoids and vitamin C can support skin quality over time, though their effect on firmness is modest.
Treatments for Mounjaro face
There are three broad ways to treat it, and many people combine them:
- Restoring volume. Dermal fillers and some injectable treatments replace lost volume in the cheeks and temples. These are medical procedures given by doctors, nurses and dentists in aesthetic clinics. Omnia does not offer injectables.
- Heat-based skin tightening. Radiofrequency and ultrasound devices heat the deeper skin to stimulate collagen.
- Mechanical skin stimulation. LPG Endermologie uses gentle suction and rhythmic pulses to stimulate the skin's own production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, with no needles and no heat.
How LPG Endermologie helps after weight loss
At Omnia we use the LPG Cellu M6 Infinity, which has a fine treatment head for the face and neck. It does not add volume the way a filler does. Instead, it helps the skin firm itself, so the jawline looks more defined, lines soften and the complexion looks brighter. In a study published by LPG Systems (Humbert, 2015), people reported smoother wrinkles and firmer skin, and hyaluronic acid production rose after a course of facial treatment. Results vary from person to person.
Facial sessions take 30 to 45 minutes, there is no recovery time, and many people notice a fresher look after the first session. A course of weekly sessions builds firmness, followed by occasional maintenance. Read more about our non-surgical facelift in London and skin tightening for face and body.
Loose skin on the body too
The same thing that happens to the face can happen to the stomach, arms and thighs. The Cellu M6 Infinity treats the body as well as the face, and your Discovery Session can include both. When to speak to your prescriber or GP
Talk to your prescriber or GP if you are losing weight much faster than expected, struggling to eat or drink, feeling dizzy or very tired, or have persistent sickness, vomiting or tummy pain. Do not stop or change your medication without advice. Omnia does not prescribe weight-loss medication.
Frequently asked questions
Does Mounjaro face go away?
Some of it can improve once your weight stabilises and you are eating and drinking normally, because skin keeps remodelling for months. Lost facial volume and very loose skin usually need help, such as collagen-stimulating treatment or volume replacement.
Is Ozempic face the same as Mounjaro face?
Yes. Ozempic face, Wegovy face and Mounjaro face are informal names for the same changes after rapid weight loss on GLP-1 medicines.
How can I avoid Mounjaro face?
Lose weight at a steady pace agreed with your prescriber, eat enough protein, do resistance exercise, drink enough water, use sunscreen and avoid smoking. Starting collagen-stimulating treatment early can also help the skin keep up.
Can you treat Mounjaro face without fillers?
Yes, if the main problem is loose skin rather than lost volume. LPG Endermologie firms the skin with no needles, and our practitioners will tell you honestly at your assessment whether it suits your face.
