Frequently asked

Does Endermologie hurt?

The short answer

No. Most people describe Endermologie as a firm, rolling massage that is relaxing rather than painful. Suction and roller pressure are adjustable and set to your tissue at the assessment. Areas with more cellulite or tension can feel more intense at first, and mild tenderness the next day is possible, but treatment should never be painful and you can ask for the pressure to be reduced at any point.

What it feels like

The treatment head lifts a fold of skin with gentle suction and rolls it between motorised rollers, moving steadily across the area. The sensation is a deep, rolling massage with a pulling feel from the suction. Most people find it pleasant, and many relax completely or fall asleep during full-body sessions. The fine body suit worn during treatment means the rollers glide without friction on the skin.

Where it can feel more intense

Areas with dense or fibrous cellulite, tight muscles, or where the tissue is sensitive, such as the inner thighs or abdomen, can feel more intense in the first few sessions. This settles as the tissue softens and circulation improves. Bony areas are treated at lower intensity. If you bruise easily or are on blood thinners, mention it so settings can be adjusted.

Afterwards

Skin is often pink for an hour or so from increased circulation. Some people feel a mild tenderness or a sensation like after exercise the following day, particularly early in a course. Bruising is uncommon and usually minor.

How it compares

Compared with deep tissue massage, Endermologie is more consistent and less intense. Compared with radiofrequency or ultrasound body treatments, there is no heat and no post-treatment soreness from tissue heating. It is one of the more comfortable body treatments available.
