What is lymphatic drainage?

Your lymphatic system has no pump of its own

It relies on movement, breathing and gentle pressure. When life slows down or the body is under strain, fluid stays put.

Lymphatic drainage is treatment that helps your lymphatic system move fluid out of the tissues and back towards the lymph nodes, where it is filtered. It is used for swelling after surgery or injury, lymphoedema, fluid retention, heavy legs, bloating and puffiness. At our Chiswick clinic it is done three ways: by hand, with sequential air compression, and mechanically on the LPG Cellu M6 Infinity.

Every plan starts with a consultation, so the treatment you book is the one that suits your body and your goal. Read our guides to lymphatic drainage after liposuction and lymphatic drainage in pregnancy.

The three routes

Three lymphatic drainage treatments, one clinic

Each one moves lymph. What changes is how it does it, how it feels, and what else it does for you along the way.

01

Manual lymphatic drainage

Feather-light, rhythmic, adapted to you on the day

Best for post-surgical and post-injury swelling, lymphoedema, fluid retention, facial puffiness, and anyone who wants the gentlest option.

  • Post-surgical recovery. Timed with your surgeon after liposuction, tummy tuck, facelift or orthopaedic surgery.
  • Precise and adaptable. Works around scars and redirects fluid where pathways are blocked.
  • Face and body. The only route that treats the face and neck.
  • Deeply relaxing. Lighter than a standard massage. Many people fall asleep.

Body Ballancer compression therapy

Sequential air compression, also called pressotherapy

Best for tired heavy legs, long days on your feet or at a desk, athletes, frequent flyers, and maintenance between hands-on sessions.

  • Wave compression. Chambers inflate from the feet upward, in the direction lymph drains.
  • Relief for heavy legs. Noticeable lightness after a single session.
  • Training and travel recovery. Eases soreness and swelling after hard sessions or flights.
  • Nothing to undress for. Shoes off, lie back, no hands-on contact.

03

LPG Endermologie

Mechanical lift and roll on LPG's most advanced system

Best for cellulite, stubborn areas, loose skin, and anyone who wants drainage and visible body change in the same session.

  • Lift and roll action. Stimulates drainage and the deeper layers of skin in one pass.
  • Smoother, firmer skin. Works on the dimpled look of cellulite and lost tone.
  • Progress you can measure. Baseline photography and Styku 3D scanning.
  • No downtime. Non-invasive, straight back to your day.

The complete approach

Why having all three under one roof matters

Most clinics offer one route and present it as the answer. With all three in one place, your therapist can sequence them, and tell you honestly when one is enough.

01

Open

Manual lymphatic drainage

Clears the main lymph node pathways first, then guides fluid towards them by hand, working around scars and altered anatomy.

02

Move

Body Ballancer compression

Keeps fluid moving across whole limbs with a consistent wave of pressure, ideal as a top-up between hands-on sessions.

03

Refine

LPG Endermologie

Adds work on skin texture, firmness and contour where that is part of your goal, with results measured rather than described.

Not every plan needs all three. Our comparison of MLD, compression and LPG explains which suits which situation.

Ask a therapist
What is lymphatic drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is treatment that helps your lymphatic system move fluid out of the tissues and back towards the lymph nodes, where it is filtered. It is used for swelling after surgery or injury, lymphoedema, fluid retention, heavy legs and puffiness. It can be done by hand (manual lymphatic drainage), with sequential air compression (Body Ballancer), or mechanically (LPG Endermologie).

How much does lymphatic drainage cost in London?

At Omnia in Chiswick, manual lymphatic drainage is £65 for 30 minutes, £90 for 60 minutes and £105 for 90 minutes. Body Ballancer compression therapy is £45 for 30 minutes or £60 for 60 minutes, and an LPG Endermologie Discovery Session is £99. See how much lymphatic drainage massage costs in the UK.

Which one should I book if I cannot decide?

Book manual lymphatic drainage. It is the most adaptable of the three and the therapist can redirect you at the consultation if something else suits you better. Or send us a WhatsApp message and we will tell you before you spend anything.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you are treating. Fluid retention from a long week often eases after one or two sessions. Post-surgical swelling and cellulite both respond to a course rather than a single visit. Your therapist will give you a realistic number after seeing you, not before.

Does lymphatic drainage hurt?

No. Manual drainage uses less pressure than a standard massage, compression feels like a firm squeeze that releases, and LPG is a rolling sensation we adjust to your comfort. Tell your therapist at any point and they will change the intensity.

Is there anyone who should not have it?

There are conditions where lymphatic drainage is not appropriate, including certain heart, kidney, circulatory and infection-related conditions, and active cancer treatment needs medical clearance first. Tell us your full history when you book and we will check before you come in.

I have had surgery. When can I start?

That is your surgeon's decision rather than ours. Once you have their clearance, bring it with you and we will work within their guidance.

Can I have more than one type?

Yes, and many clients do. Compression works well as a regular top-up between hands-on sessions, and LPG is often combined with manual drainage through a course. We will build the combination around you.

Do you offer lymphatic drainage home visits?

Yes. Manual lymphatic drainage is available as a home visit across West London. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange one. Body Ballancer compression and LPG Endermologie take place at our Chiswick clinic, where the equipment is.
