Why people choose our classes

A calmer way to learn tai chi in London

Some tai chi classes in London are large community sessions in halls and leisure centres. That suits some people, but beginners often leave unsure whether their knees, hips and back are in the right place. Our groups are kept small, so your teacher can walk round, correct your stance and adapt movements to you.

Every class combines qi gong and Wu-style tai chi. You start with slow breathing and warm-up movements, then learn tai chi step by step, so you leave with something you can practise at home from the first week. Read more about tai chi or qi gong for beginners.

Classes are held inside a health clinic, alongside physiotherapy, acupuncture and balance assessment. If pain or dizziness is holding you back, the right help is in the same building.

How to choose

What to look for in a London tai chi class

  • A group small enough for the teacher to correct you, especially knee and back alignment.
  • An experienced teacher with a long record of teaching, not a short certificate.
  • A seated or adapted option if balance, arthritis or fatigue are a concern.
  • A time and place you can reach every week. Tai chi works through regular practice, so a class you keep going to beats a better one you miss.
  • A clear price. Our group classes are £15, paid per class, with no term fee or joining fee.

What happens in a tai chi class

Classes last an hour and move at a gentle pace. You will not be out of breath, but your legs will have worked.

  1. Arrive and settle. Your teacher asks about any joint, balance or health concerns, so stances can be adapted from the start.
  2. Qi gong warm-up. Gentle loosening movements and slow breathing to settle the body and mind.
  3. Tai chi, step by step. Wu-style movements taught by demonstration and repetition, with a seated option throughout.
  4. Cool-down and home practice. A short routine you can repeat for ten minutes at home between classes.

Wear loose clothing and flat shoes. No equipment is needed. Read what happens in a tai chi class for more detail.
