What sets the price of a tai chi class
Four things drive the cost of tai chi in London: group size, the teacher's training and lineage, the venue, and whether you pay per class or sign up for a course. Large community classes in church halls and leisure centres sit at the lower end. Small classes with highly experienced teachers, and private lessons, cost more because you get more individual correction.
Group classes or one-to-one?
A group class is the most cost-effective way to learn and to keep practising. You learn the movements alongside others, which many people find motivating, and the social side helps you keep going, which is where the benefits come from. One-to-one sessions suit people who want faster progress, who have a specific condition or mobility limit to work around, or who cannot make the group times.
What good value looks like
- A small enough group for the teacher to correct your posture, especially knee and back alignment.
- An experienced teacher with a clear lineage or long teaching record.
- A seated or adapted option if balance or joints are a concern.
- A location you can reach every week, because regular practice matters more than any single class.
