Who Randox are
Randox is a diagnostics company founded in Northern Ireland that develops laboratory tests and runs high-volume laboratories used by clinics, hospitals and private health services in the UK and internationally. Partner clinics such as Omnia take the blood sample locally and send it to Randox for analysis, then receive the results to review with the patient. The laboratory work is the same wherever the sample is drawn; what varies between providers is the sample-taking, the turnaround and the quality of the interpretation you receive.
What a Randox panel can include
Depending on the panel chosen, markers typically fall into these groups: a full blood count for anaemia and infection; liver and kidney function; a lipid profile for cholesterol and triglycerides; HbA1c and glucose for diabetes risk; thyroid function; vitamin D, B12, folate and ferritin for common deficiencies; inflammatory markers such as CRP; and hormone markers such as testosterone or the female hormone panel. Broader health screens combine most of these. The panel is chosen according to what you want to know, and the clinic confirms exactly which markers are included when you book.
How it works at a clinic
You book an appointment, fast beforehand if your panel includes glucose or a fasting lipid profile, and a trained member of staff takes the sample. It is couriered to the laboratory the same day. Results usually return within a few working days and come back as a report showing each marker against its reference range.
What the results mean
Reference ranges show where most healthy people sit, but a value just outside a range is not automatically a problem and a value inside a range is not automatically fine. Age, sex, medication, recent illness, exercise and time of day all shift results. That is why the review matters: someone who can tell you which findings deserve attention, which are borderline and worth rechecking, and which need a GP.
Randox versus NHS testing
NHS blood tests are ordered by a GP for a specific clinical reason and cover the markers relevant to that reason. Randox testing is chosen by you and can be as broad or as narrow as you want, without a referral. It is not a replacement for medical care: if a result is abnormal, your GP or a specialist is the route to investigation and treatment.
