Private blood test, Chiswick W4
Total and free testosterone with SHBG, analysed by Randox and explained to you by a practitioner. No fasting and no GP referral needed.
Our Testosterone Check measures total testosterone, free testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), albumin and the free androgen index. Total testosterone on its own can be misleading when SHBG is unusually high or low, so free testosterone gives a clearer picture of the hormone your body can actually use.
In women, testosterone and the free androgen index are used when looking into polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), irregular periods, acne or excess hair growth.
The price includes the blood draw at our clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 15189, UKAS Lab ID 9329) and a practitioner review of your result. A GP feedback report is available on request, and no GP referral is needed.
Testosterone changes through the day and is highest in the morning, so a low result is usually rechecked with a second morning sample before any conclusion is drawn. Your practitioner reads total and free testosterone together with SHBG and your symptoms, and explains what your numbers mean for you.
If anything needs medical follow-up, we tell you clearly and can provide a GP feedback report.
Book a morning appointment, ideally before 11am. No fasting is needed. Tell us about any hormone treatment, supplements or medicines you take.
Most people start with the Testosterone Check. Add more markers if you are on, or considering, testosterone replacement.
If you have more than one question, a health check often gives better value than single tests.
A total testosterone test costs £49 and our Testosterone Check, which adds free testosterone, SHBG and the free androgen index, costs £59. Both include the blood draw, Randox laboratory analysis and a practitioner review.
No, but the test should be taken in the morning, ideally before 11am, when testosterone is at its highest.
Free testosterone is useful when SHBG is high or low, which is common with age, weight changes and some medicines. The Testosterone Check includes both.
Yes. A GP feedback report is available on request for every test. Let us know when you book or at your appointment and we will prepare a report you can share with your GP.
