What the test measures
Our Hormone Health Check measures follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinising hormone (LH), oestradiol, progesterone, prolactin, testosterone, SHBG and the free androgen index. The Hormone and Thyroid Panel adds a full thyroid profile, because an underactive or overactive thyroid can cause symptoms very similar to perimenopause.
The price includes the blood draw at our clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 15189, UKAS Lab ID 9329) and a practitioner review of your result. A GP feedback report is available on request, and no GP referral is needed.

What a blood test can and cannot tell you
If you are over 45 with typical symptoms, menopause is usually diagnosed from your symptoms, without a blood test. Hormone levels go up and down during perimenopause, so a single normal result does not rule it out.
Blood tests are most useful if you are under 45, if your symptoms are unusual, or to rule out other causes such as thyroid problems, low iron or low vitamin D. Your practitioner explains your results in the context of your symptoms.
Preparing for your test
If you still have periods, book your test for day two to five of your cycle. Hormonal contraception and HRT affect the results, so tell us what you take. No fasting is needed.

Can a blood test confirm menopause?
Not always. Over 45, menopause is diagnosed from symptoms, and hormones fluctuate during perimenopause. Testing is most useful under 45 or to rule out other causes.
When in my cycle should I test?
If you still have periods, test on day two to five of your cycle for the most meaningful FSH, LH and oestradiol results.
Can you send my results to my GP?
Yes. A GP feedback report is available on request for every test. Let us know when you book or at your appointment and we will prepare a report you can share with your GP.
