Prices vary with the number of markers. As a guide, single tests such as vitamin D, thyroid function or ferritin typically cost £30 to £80. Mid-range panels covering blood count, liver, kidney, cholesterol, thyroid and key vitamins usually cost £100 to £200. Comprehensive health screens with hormones, inflammation markers, diabetes risk and organ function run from £200 to £500. Some providers charge extra for the blood draw itself, a nurse appointment or a doctor's review, so check what the headline price includes.

How much is a full medical check-up in the UK?
A private full body health check usually costs £100 to £500, depending on how many markers it covers and whether a doctor's examination is included. How much blood is taken for a blood test?
Only a small amount. Each tube holds a few millilitres, and even a full health check usually needs just a few tubes, no more than a couple of tablespoons in total. That is a tiny fraction of the roughly five litres of blood in an adult, and your body replaces it quickly. At Omnia the blood draw usually takes under ten minutes. Drinking water beforehand helps, and tell us if you tend to feel faint.
Are blood tests free on the NHS?
Yes. Blood tests ordered by your GP or a hospital team are free to you on the NHS, whatever the test. The NHS does not usually offer tests on request, though: a GP orders the markers that answer a specific clinical question, so a general health check or a test you simply want to know about is normally done privately.
How much does a blood test cost the NHS?
The NHS does not publish a single price per blood test, and its cost per test is far lower than a private price because tests are run in very large volumes. One NHS trust, Milton Keynes University Hospital, reported in a 2018 Freedom of Information response that routine blood science tests such as a full blood count or liver function test cost it an average of under £1 each in 2016 to 2017. That figure covers the laboratory analysis only. It leaves out the blood draw, staff time, transport and the GP appointment that comes first. A private price covers all of these, plus a review of your results.
Why not just use the NHS?
Private testing suits a general check, tracking a change over time, or looking at something your GP has not tested. Many people use both: private testing to look, then the NHS to act on anything significant.
Cheap blood tests: what affects value
A cheap test with no explanation can leave you with a page of numbers and no idea what to do with them. The value of a blood test lies in the interpretation: knowing which results matter, which are borderline, and what to change. Look for a service that reviews results with you, uses an accredited laboratory, and will tell you clearly if something needs a doctor.
