Prices vary widely because the word blood test covers everything from a single vitamin D check to a panel of more than 100 markers. As a guide, single tests such as vitamin D, thyroid function or ferritin typically cost £30 to £80. Mid-range panels covering blood count, liver, kidney, cholesterol, thyroid and key vitamins usually cost £100 to £200. Comprehensive health screens with hormones, inflammation markers, diabetes risk and organ function run from £200 to £500. Some providers charge extra for the blood draw itself, a nurse appointment or a doctor's review, so check what the headline price includes.

Why not just use the NHS?
NHS blood tests are free, but they are only available when a GP decides a test is clinically needed, and they cover the markers relevant to that question rather than a broad health picture. If you want a general check, to track a change over time, or to investigate something your GP has not tested, private testing fills the gap. Many people use both: private testing to look, then the NHS to act on anything significant.
What affects value
A cheap test with no explanation can leave you with a page of numbers and no idea what to do with them. The value of a blood test lies in the interpretation: knowing which results matter, which are borderline, and what to change. Look for a service that reviews results with you, uses an accredited laboratory, and will tell you clearly if something needs a doctor.
