HRT blood test in London

HRT blood tests, and when they help.

Most women do not need routine hormone tests to start or stay on HRT. Testing helps when symptoms continue, when you use testosterone, or to check heart and liver health. Tests from £49 at our Chiswick clinic.

No fasting for hormone tests. Cholesterol tests need 8 to 12 hours, water only.

When an HRT blood test is useful

NHS guidance says women over 45 with typical symptoms can usually be diagnosed with the menopause, and started on HRT, without a blood test. Blood tests are useful in some situations:

  • You are under 45 and your periods have changed or stopped, when FSH can help show what is happening.
  • You use testosterone for low libido, and your prescriber wants your levels checked.
  • Your symptoms continue on HRT and your prescriber wants to check your oestradiol level.
  • You want to rule out other causes of tiredness or low mood, such as thyroid problems, low iron, low B12 or low vitamin D.
  • You want to check cholesterol, blood sugar and liver health, which matter more after the menopause.

We do not prescribe HRT. Share your results report with your GP or menopause specialist, who can adjust your treatment.

Tests and prices

Every price includes the blood draw, laboratory analysis by Randox and your results report. GP feedback and GP consultations are available on request, at an extra cost. Appointments only.

Preparing for your test

Hormone tests need no fasting. Cholesterol and glucose tests need 8 to 12 hours without food, water only, and we offer early appointments for them. Tell us which HRT you use and when you last took or applied it, and follow any timing your prescriber gives you. We see clients by appointment only.

Why Omnia

A clinic, not a testing kiosk.

The value of a blood test is in what happens after the numbers arrive. At Omnia, your results become a plan.

  • A clear results report. Every marker set out in plain language: what is in range, what is borderline and what is worth rechecking.
  • Joined-up care. Results can inform acupuncture, Ayurveda, physiotherapy or nutrition care here, or a referral to your GP.
  • Honest about what testing is. A result outside the range is a prompt, not a diagnosis. If anything needs a doctor, we say so and give you the report.
  • Close to Turnham Green station. District line, with Piccadilly line trains early in the morning and late in the evening only. Limited parking is available on request when booking.

Testing is carried out in partnership with Randox Clinical Laboratory Services, an ISO/IEC 15189 accredited laboratory (UKAS Lab ID 9329). Where a panel has female and male versions, the difference is mainly the hormone and tumour marker selection. All prices include the blood draw, laboratory analysis and your results report. These tests do not replace care from your GP. If you have worsening symptoms, unexplained weight loss, bleeding or severe pain, please see a doctor first.

Questions

Do I need a blood test before starting HRT?

Usually not if you are over 45 with typical symptoms, as NHS guidance says the menopause can be diagnosed from your symptoms. A blood test can help if you are under 45, or if your symptoms are unclear.

Can a blood test show if my HRT is working?

Your symptoms are the main guide. If they continue, your prescriber may ask for an oestradiol level to see how well your HRT is being absorbed.

Which blood tests are used for testosterone in women?

Testosterone, often with SHBG to work out the free androgen index. Your prescriber will tell you when to test.

How much is an HRT blood test?

Single hormone tests such as oestradiol, FSH or testosterone cost £49. The Hormone Health Check, with eight sex hormone markers, costs £69. Prices include the blood draw, laboratory analysis and your results report.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You book directly with us, by enquiry, phone or WhatsApp. A GP consultation is available on request, at an extra cost.
