What a well woman blood check covers

A well woman check at Omnia is a set of blood tests chosen for women’s health. Depending on the check you choose, it can include:

  • Full blood count and ferritin, to look for anaemia and low iron stores, which are common with heavy periods.
  • Thyroid function, which affects energy, weight, mood and periods.
  • Vitamin D, vitamin B12 and folate.
  • Cholesterol, blood sugar (HbA1c), liver and kidney function.
  • Female hormones, such as oestradiol, progesterone, FSH and LH, in the wider checks.

Every sample is analysed by our laboratory partner Randox, and you receive a results report that sets out every marker in plain language.

Well woman check over 50

After the menopause, heart and bone health matter more. The Complete Woman includes the widest range of heart markers, including Lipoprotein (a), an inherited heart risk marker that is usually measured once. If you are going through the change, see our menopause blood test and HRT blood tests.

What a well woman blood check does not include

These are blood tests, not a physical examination. They do not replace NHS cervical screening or breast screening, so keep going to those when you are invited.

Preparing for your check

Fasting for 8 to 12 hours, water only, is needed for tests that include cholesterol or glucose. Hormone and single tests usually need no fasting. We confirm what applies to you when you book, and offer early appointments for fasting tests. We see clients by appointment only. If your check includes female hormones, we may suggest a day in your cycle for the appointment.

Why Omnia

A clinic, not a testing kiosk.

The value of a blood test is in what happens after the numbers arrive. At Omnia, your results become a plan.

  • A clear results report. Every marker set out in plain language: what is in range, what is borderline and what is worth rechecking.
  • Joined-up care. Results can inform acupuncture, Ayurveda, physiotherapy or nutrition care here, or a referral to your GP.
  • Honest about what testing is. A result outside the range is a prompt, not a diagnosis. If anything needs a doctor, we say so and give you the report.
  • Close to Turnham Green station. District line, with Piccadilly line trains early in the morning and late in the evening only. Limited parking is available on request when booking.

Testing is carried out in partnership with Randox Clinical Laboratory Services, an ISO/IEC 15189 accredited laboratory (UKAS Lab ID 9329). Where a panel has female and male versions, the difference is mainly the hormone and tumour marker selection. All prices include the blood draw, laboratory analysis and your results report. These tests do not replace care from your GP. If you have worsening symptoms, unexplained weight loss, bleeding or severe pain, please see a doctor first.

Questions

How much is a well woman check in London?

Our well woman blood checks start at £89 for Omnia Essential, with 34 biomarkers. The Complete Woman, with 92 biomarkers including hormones, costs £299. Prices include the blood draw, laboratory analysis and your results report.

What is included in a well woman check?

It depends on the check you choose. Most include a blood count, iron, thyroid, vitamin D, cholesterol, blood sugar, liver and kidney function. The wider checks add female hormones.

Is a well woman check the same as a smear test?

No. Our well woman checks are blood tests. Cervical screening and breast screening are separate, and the NHS invites you for them.

When in my cycle should I book?

For most markers any day is fine. If your check includes female hormones, we suggest a day in your cycle when you book, as some levels change through the month.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You book directly with us, by enquiry, phone or WhatsApp. A GP consultation is available on request, at an extra cost.
