Heart health blood tests in Chiswick

From a simple cholesterol check to ApoB, lipoprotein(a) and inherited risk testing, our heart blood tests in Chiswick show how your blood fats and related markers compare with expected ranges. Prices start at £39, no GP referral is needed and a practitioner explains every result in person.

25 tests from £39, explained in person

High cholesterol does not usually cause symptoms, so a blood test is the only way to know your level. Heart blood tests measure the fats carried in your blood, such as LDL and HDL cholesterol and triglycerides, and can add markers such as apolipoprotein B and lipoprotein(a) for a more detailed picture. Results are one part of your heart risk, alongside blood pressure, weight, smoking, diabetes and family history.

At Omnia Lifestyle in Chiswick, your sample is taken at our clinic at Bedford Corner on The Avenue, a short walk from Turnham Green station, and analysed at the Randox accredited laboratory. You do not need a GP referral. Most results are back within a few working days, and a practitioner explains every result with you in person, with a GP feedback report available on request.

Chest pain is an emergency, not a blood test appointment. If you have chest pain that feels tight or like squeezing, pain spreading to your arms, neck or jaw, or severe difficulty breathing, call 999 straight away. Do not book a test or drive yourself to A&E.

Cholesterol tests

Standard cholesterol measures, from a single total cholesterol test to a full profile with LDL, HDL and triglycerides.

Advanced lipid and inflammation markers

Extra markers such as ApoB, lipoprotein(a), hs-CRP and homocysteine, for a more detailed view of cholesterol-related risk.

Heart and metabolic panels

Combined panels that pair cholesterol with inflammation markers, adding blood sugar in most and liver and kidney markers in the largest.

Heart strain markers

NT-proBNP and troponin T for planned follow-up with your practitioner or GP, never as a substitute for emergency care.

  • NT-proBNP (Heart Strain)

Single marker test. Following up heart or clotting questions with your practitioner.

Questions

How much does a heart blood test cost in Chiswick?

A total cholesterol test costs £39 and a full Cholesterol Profile, with LDL, HDL and triglycerides, costs £49. Lipoprotein(a) is £69, ApoB £79, and our Heart Health panel, which adds apolipoproteins, Lp(a) and hs-CRP, is £89. Genetic tests for inherited heart conditions cost £745 to £1,095. Every price includes a practitioner review and a GP report on request.

Do I need to fast before a cholesterol test?

Usually not. The NHS says it does not make much difference to cholesterol levels whether you have eaten before your test. If your test also includes glucose, insulin or a detailed triglyceride measurement, we may ask you to fast beforehand, and we will tell you when you book. Keep drinking water and take your usual medicines unless your doctor has told you otherwise.

Can a blood test here tell me if I am having a heart attack?

No. If you have chest pain or other heart attack symptoms, call 999 immediately. Heart attacks are assessed in hospital with urgent tests. Our troponin T and NT-proBNP tests are analysed by an external laboratory and are only for planned follow-up with a practitioner or GP, so they must never be used to check new or ongoing chest pain.

What is lipoprotein(a) and how often should I test it?

Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a particle that carries cholesterol in the blood. NHS laboratory guidance notes that levels are largely genetically determined and that there is usually no need to repeat the test, so one result is normally enough. A raised level is one factor your practitioner or GP will weigh alongside your other heart risks, such as cholesterol, blood pressure and smoking.

How is this different from the NHS Health Check?

The NHS Health Check is offered every five years to adults in England aged 40 to 74 who do not already have conditions such as heart disease or diabetes. It includes a cholesterol test and an estimate of your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney disease. Our tests suit you if you are outside that age range, want to test sooner, or want extra markers such as ApoB or Lp(a).

When should I see a GP about my heart?

See your GP if you get chest pain or tightness during activity that eases with rest, new breathlessness, swollen ankles or palpitations that worry you, or if your results show a high cholesterol level or you have a strong family history of early heart disease. Call 999 for chest pain that is severe, spreading or does not settle, or for severe difficulty breathing.

Related tests and guides

These tests do not replace care from your GP. If you have worsening symptoms, unexplained weight loss, bleeding or severe pain, please see a doctor first. For chest pain or signs of a stroke, call 999.
