Gut health tests in Chiswick

Bloating, tummy pain, indigestion or a change in bowel habit can have many causes. Our gut health tests in Chiswick, from calprotectin and H. pylori to coeliac antibodies and pancreatic markers, help narrow them down. Prices start at £49, no GP referral is needed and a practitioner explains every result.

22 tests from £49, explained in person

Gut symptoms are very common and many have a simple explanation, but some need a closer look. Tests can show signs of bowel inflammation, H. pylori infection, coeliac disease, pancreas problems or a gut infection, and help you and your practitioner decide on next steps. Several gut tests use a stool sample rather than blood, and we will explain how to collect and return it when you book.

Bowel symptoms that could be serious need your GP. If you have blood in your poo, a change in bowel habit, unexplained weight loss or a lump in your tummy, see your GP. In the NHS, a qFIT test for people with symptoms is arranged through your GP, and a raised result leads to an urgent referral to a specialist. A private qFIT does not replace this pathway. People aged 50 to 74 in England are also sent a free NHS bowel cancer screening kit every two years.

At Omnia Lifestyle in Chiswick, your sample is taken at our clinic at Bedford Corner on The Avenue, a short walk from Turnham Green station, and analysed at the Randox accredited laboratory. You do not need a GP referral. Most results are back within a few working days, and a practitioner explains every result with you in person, with a GP feedback report available on request.

Bowel inflammation and hidden blood

Stool tests for calprotectin, a marker of bowel inflammation, and qFIT, which detects tiny amounts of blood.

Stomach, indigestion and H. pylori

Blood and stool tests for H. pylori infection and related stomach markers, for indigestion, heartburn or upper tummy pain.

Coeliac disease and food intolerance

Coeliac antibody tests, plus gene tests for coeliac disease and lactose intolerance.

Pancreas

Blood tests for pancreatic enzymes, and a stool test for faecal elastase, which reflects how well the pancreas makes digestive enzymes.

Gut infection and microbiome

A PCR stool test for common gut infections, and a microbiome analysis of gut bacteria, fungi and parasites.

Broader digestive panels

Combined panels with blood count, iron and coeliac antibodies. The two nutrition panels add vitamins, and Digestive Health Extended adds liver markers and stool tests.

Questions

How much does a gut health test cost in Chiswick?

Prices start at £49 for pancreatic amylase and £59 for a qFIT stool test. H. pylori tests cost £79 for the blood test or £89 for the stool test, calprotectin is £119 and the combined qFIT and Calprotectin test is £139. Broader digestive panels cost £199 to £299, and our gut microbiome analysis is £299. Every price includes a practitioner review and a GP report on request.

What does a calprotectin test show?

Calprotectin is a protein found in stool when the bowel is inflamed. NICE recommends faecal calprotectin to help doctors tell inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, apart from irritable bowel syndrome in adults with recent lower gut symptoms, when cancer is not suspected. A raised result is a reason to see your GP.

Should I book a private qFIT if I have bowel symptoms?

If you have symptoms such as blood in your poo, a change in bowel habit or unexplained weight loss, please see your GP first. In the NHS, qFIT for people with symptoms is part of a GP-led pathway, and NICE advises an urgent referral for a result of 10 micrograms of haemoglobin per gram of faeces or more. A negative result does not rule out bowel cancer if symptoms continue.

How do I prepare for an H. pylori test?

For an accurate result, NICE advises waiting two weeks after stopping a proton pump inhibitor, such as omeprazole or lansoprazole, and four weeks after any antibiotics. Do not stop a prescribed medicine without checking with your GP or pharmacist. The stool test looks for current infection, while the antibody blood test can stay positive after an infection has cleared.

Do I need to keep eating gluten before a coeliac test?

Yes. NICE advises eating some gluten in more than one meal every day for at least six weeks before a coeliac antibody test, because cutting it out can give a falsely normal result. If you have already stopped eating gluten, talk to us or your GP before booking. A positive result is usually followed up by your GP with a referral to a specialist.

Is a gut microbiome test worth it?

A microbiome test gives a detailed snapshot of the bacteria, fungi and other organisms in your gut, which some people find useful when making diet and lifestyle changes with a practitioner. It is not a diagnostic test for a gut condition, and the science on what a healthy microbiome looks like is still developing. If you have ongoing symptoms, the tests above are usually a better starting point.
