Private stool and blood tests, Chiswick W4
Find out whether H. pylori, a common stomach bacterium, could be behind your indigestion, analysed by Randox and explained to you by a practitioner.
H. pylori is a common bacterium that can live in the stomach lining and cause gastritis and stomach ulcers. The stool antigen test detects the bacterium itself, so it shows a current infection and can be used to confirm it has cleared after treatment.
The blood antibody test shows whether you have been exposed to H. pylori, but antibodies can stay in your blood for a long time after the infection has gone.
The price includes your sample collection, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 15189, UKAS Lab ID 9329) and a practitioner review of your result. A GP feedback report is available on request, and no GP referral is needed.
A positive stool antigen result means H. pylori is present, and it is usually treated with a short course of antibiotics and acid-reducing medicine prescribed by your GP. A retest at least four weeks after treatment confirms it has cleared.
A positive antibody result shows past or present exposure and is not used to check whether treatment has worked.
For an accurate stool test, stop acid-reducing medicines such as omeprazole for two weeks before, and do not test within four weeks of taking antibiotics. Ask your GP before stopping any prescribed medicine.
The stool antigen test is the best test for a current infection.
If you have more than one question, a health check often gives better value than single tests.
The stool antigen test costs £89 and the blood antibody test costs £79, including Randox laboratory analysis and a practitioner review.
The stool antigen test shows a current infection and can confirm the bacterium has cleared after treatment. The blood test only shows exposure at some point.
Acid-reducing medicines should be stopped for two weeks and antibiotics for four weeks before a stool test. Check with your GP before stopping any prescribed medicine.
