Nutrition Health Screen blood test in Chiswick

A 46-marker blood test covering vitamins, minerals, iron, thyroid, coeliac antibodies, liver and blood sugar, for low energy, restrictive diets or a suspected deficiency, read with a practitioner.

What the test measures

The Nutrition Health Screen focuses on the markers most closely tied to diet and absorption. It measures vitamin B12, folic acid, vitamin D, magnesium and zinc, a full iron profile with ferritin, and adjusted calcium. A full blood count shows whether low nutrients are affecting your red blood cells.

Coeliac antibodies, tissue transglutaminase IgA, are included because coeliac disease is a common and often missed cause of poor absorption. Pancreatic amylase gives a look at the pancreas, which makes digestive enzymes. A thyroid profile with antibodies, cholesterol, glucose, HbA1c, insulin and liver markers complete the screen.

Your price includes the sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review of your result and a GP feedback report on request. Your practitioner can link the results to your diet and symptoms.

Who it is for

  • You often feel tired or low in energy and want key nutrients checked.
  • You follow a vegan, vegetarian or otherwise restricted diet.
  • You have bloating, diarrhoea or weight loss and want coeliac antibodies included.
  • You have had weight loss surgery or take medicines that affect absorption.
  • You want to check your thyroid alongside nutrition.

Understanding your result

Results are shown against the laboratory reference range. Low ferritin, B12, folate or vitamin D are common and can often be addressed with diet or supplements, guided by your practitioner. Low magnesium or zinc may relate to diet or absorption.

A positive coeliac antibody result is a strong prompt to see your GP, as NHS guidance is that diagnosis is usually confirmed with a gut biopsy. Any result outside the range is a prompt for discussion, not a diagnosis.

Preparing for your test

Fast for 8 to 10 hours with water only, as glucose, insulin and triglycerides are affected by food. Importantly, keep eating gluten in at least one meal a day for six weeks beforehand, as cutting it out can make the coeliac test falsely negative. Stop iron for 24 hours and B12, folic acid and biotin for two days before your test where safe.
