The short version

Can you have LPG after liposuction or a tummy tuck?

Quick answer. Yes, once your surgeon agrees. At Omnia Lifestyle in Chiswick W4, LPG Endermologie can be used later in recovery from liposuction or a tummy tuck to help soften and smooth the tissue. It does not replace your compression garment or aftercare, it does not change the result of your operation, and research on it is limited.
Where it fits

Liposuction and tummy tuck recovery: where LPG fits

Every operation and every surgeon is different, so there are no dates here. Your surgeon decides when each stage starts.

StageWho leadsWhere LPG fits
Before surgeryYour surgeonOnly if your surgeon agrees. It can give you a baseline of your skin and measurements. We know of no good evidence that it changes a surgical result.
First days and weeksYour surgeon, your compression garment, rest and gentle walkingNot at this stage.
While swelling settlesYour surgeon, with gentle manual lymphatic drainage if they agreeUsually not yet. Drainage is far lighter than LPG, so it normally comes first.
Later recoveryYour surgeon clears youThis is where LPG usually fits, to help soften firm tissue and smooth the skin around the treated area.
Longer termYou and your therapistOptional sessions if you want them, with a clear reason for each one.

For scale, the NHS says that after liposuction you wear a corset or compression bandages for several weeks, and that bruising and swelling may last up to 6 months. After a tummy tuck it says you usually wear a corset for 6 weeks and take about 4 to 6 weeks off work and exercise. These describe recovery from the operation. They are not a signal to start LPG.

Honest limits

What LPG can and cannot do after surgery

It may help

  • Firm or tight tissue feel softer
  • Skin around the treated area look smoother
  • The area feel more comfortable and less tight
  • You keep track of change, with measurements and a Styku 3D scan where useful

It will not

  • Take out more fat or correct an uneven result
  • Heal a wound faster or replace your compression garment
  • Treat infection, a blood clot or a fluid collection
  • Change what your surgeon advised
What the evidence says. Research on LPG after cosmetic surgery is limited. We found no large independent trial, and much of the support comes from clinical experience. Evidence for LPG overall is mixed, so treat it as an optional support for how tissue feels and looks, not as part of your medical recovery. We work around incisions, never over them, until they have closed and healed.
How to book

Three steps before your first session

The Discovery Session is the place to start if you are new to LPG at Omnia.

  1. Ask your surgeon. Ask whether LPG is suitable for you, when it could start and which areas to avoid. Written advice is best.
  2. Have your details ready. We ask for the date and type of your operation, the areas treated and any written instructions you were given.
  3. Book your visit. Your first visit is a 60-minute Discovery Session for £99, with a consultation, an assessment and a full treatment.

Clients with their surgeon's clearance can choose the Pre/Post Surgery session (£100, 50 minutes) when booking, or call us on 020 4515 0000.

Looking for lymphatic drainage instead?

Light drainage and LPG do different jobs. Omnia is the only clinic in London offering LPG Endermologie, manual lymphatic drainage and Body Ballancer compression under one roof, so your plan can change as you heal.

Choosing a treatment

How the three compare in MLD vs compression vs LPG. MLD starts at £65 and Body Ballancer at £45.

Your first visit

Your Discovery Session: 60 minutes, £99

  1. Consultation. Your goals, your health history, any medication and what you have already tried.
  2. Assessment. Skin quality, priority areas and measurements, with photographs and a Styku 3D scan where useful, so progress is measured rather than guessed.
  3. A full treatment. Not a demonstration. You change into the Endermowear body suit and have a proper session, face, body or both.
  4. An honest plan. What is realistic, roughly how many sessions it would take, and whether LPG suits you at all.

Most people come weekly for a course, then monthly to maintain results. See how many Endermologie sessions you need.

  • Discovery Session with consultation and full treatment, 60 min£99
  • Follow-up session, 35 min£70
  • Follow-up session, 45 min£90
  • Follow-up session, 50 min£100
  • Follow-up session, 60 min£120
  • Courses of sessionsonly if you want one

You pay after your treatment, with nothing to pay upfront. Follow-up length depends on the areas treated.

Who this is not for

When LPG is not the right step

Your surgeon has not agreed

If you have not asked, or the answer was not yet, please wait. We will not treat recently operated tissue without your surgeon's advice.

Something does not feel right

Contact your surgeon, GP or NHS 111 for a wound that becomes more red, painful or swollen, leaks, or opens, for a high temperature, or for pain or swelling in one leg. Call 999 for chest pain or sudden breathlessness.

You are unhappy with the result

Uneven areas, new lumps or a shape you did not expect should go back to your surgeon first. LPG will not correct them, and only a surgeon can advise on revision.

LPG is not used on the abdomen in pregnancy, or with active cancer, infection, phlebitis or a blood clot, open wounds or inflamed skin. With a circulatory or blood disorder, a pacemaker or an implanted device, get your doctor's advice first.

Questions

LPG after surgery questions

How soon after liposuction can I have LPG?

Only your surgeon can say. It depends on your operation, the areas treated and how you are healing, so we do not give a set number of weeks. Ask at your follow-up appointment and bring their advice to your first visit.

Can I have LPG after a tummy tuck?

Yes, if your surgeon agrees and your wounds have closed and healed. We keep clear of the scar line until it has healed, and your therapist adjusts the work around any numb or tender areas.

Is LPG or lymphatic drainage better after surgery?

They do different jobs. Manual lymphatic drainage is very light and aimed at fluid, so it normally comes first. LPG is firmer and works on the tissue, so it usually fits later. Some people have both.

Will LPG help lumps after liposuction?

The NHS says lumpy and uneven results can occasionally happen after liposuction, so show any lump to your surgeon first. Once cleared, LPG may help firm areas feel softer, but it will not correct an uneven result.

Can I have LPG before surgery?

Only if your surgeon agrees. It can give you a baseline of your skin and measurements, but we know of no good evidence that it changes the result of an operation.

Which session should I book?

If you are new to LPG at Omnia, start with the £99 Discovery Session. Clients with their surgeon's clearance can choose the Pre/Post Surgery session, £100 for 50 minutes, when booking, or call us on 020 4515 0000.

How many LPG sessions will I need after surgery?

It varies. Across LPG treatments most people notice change after 6 to 8 sessions, usually weekly and then monthly. After surgery your therapist reviews how the tissue is responding and only suggests what is useful.
