Private blood test, Chiswick W4
Cortisol and DHEA-S, the main adrenal stress hormones, analysed by Randox and explained to you by a practitioner.
Our Stress Hormone Check measures cortisol, the main hormone your adrenal glands release in response to stress, and DHEA-S, another adrenal hormone that tends to fall with age and long-term illness.
The price includes the blood draw at our clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory (ISO/IEC 15189, UKAS Lab ID 9329) and a practitioner review of your result. A GP feedback report is available on request, and no GP referral is needed.
Cortisol follows a daily rhythm, highest in the early morning and lowest around midnight, so a blood test reflects your level at that moment. A very low or very high result can point to an adrenal or pituitary condition, which would need further specialist tests arranged through your GP.
A single cortisol blood test cannot measure everyday stress, and "adrenal fatigue" is not a recognised medical diagnosis. Your practitioner explains your result honestly and in context.
Book an early morning appointment, ideally between 8am and 9am. Steroid medicines, including inhalers and creams, and the contraceptive pill can affect cortisol, so tell us what you take. No fasting is needed.
The Stress Hormone Check is the usual starting point.
If you have more than one question, a health check often gives better value than single tests.
Our Stress Hormone Check, which measures cortisol and DHEA-S, costs £79, including the blood draw, Randox laboratory analysis and a practitioner review.
Early morning, ideally between 8am and 9am, when cortisol is at its natural peak.
No. Adrenal fatigue is not a recognised medical diagnosis. A cortisol test can help rule out genuine adrenal conditions, which need specialist follow-up.
