Vitamins and Minerals Check blood test in Chiswick

The Vitamins and Minerals Check measures vitamin D, B12, folate, iron studies, zinc, magnesium and calcium, for people with tiredness, low mood or a restrictive diet who want a clear picture of their core nutrients.

What the test measures

Many everyday symptoms, such as tiredness, poor concentration, low mood and brittle nails, can be linked with low levels of key nutrients. This check covers the ones most often found to be low in the UK. Vitamin D supports bones, muscles and immunity, and is commonly low in autumn and winter. Vitamin B12 and folate are needed to make healthy red blood cells and for nerve function.

Iron is assessed through ferritin, serum iron, transferrin, total iron binding capacity and transferrin saturation, which together show both iron stores and how much iron is available. Zinc supports skin, immunity and healing, magnesium is involved in muscle and nerve function, and calcium is reported as adjusted calcium using your albumin level.

The price includes your sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a review of your result with an Omnia practitioner, and a GP feedback report on request.

Who it is for

  • You feel tired or run down and want to check common nutrient causes.
  • You eat a vegan, vegetarian or limited diet.
  • You have heavy periods, which can lower iron.
  • You spend little time outdoors or cover your skin, which can lower vitamin D.
  • You take supplements and want to check whether you need them.

Understanding your result

Your report shows the laboratory reference range for each result. Low ferritin is the clearest sign of low iron stores, although inflammation can make ferritin look normal. Low vitamin D is common and usually responds well to supplements. Low B12 or folate can lead to anaemia and nerve symptoms, and borderline results may need further testing.

High results can also be important, such as very high ferritin or vitamin D. A result outside the range is a prompt for discussion, not a diagnosis, and your practitioner will advise on diet, supplements or a GP visit where needed.

Preparing for your test

No strict fasting is needed, but a morning appointment is best because iron and zinc levels vary through the day. Stop iron supplements for at least 24 hours before the test, and let us know about multivitamins, B12 injections or high-dose biotin, which can interfere with some immunoassays.

If you need more detail, the Vitamins and Minerals Extended adds active B12, red cell folate, red cell magnesium and copper. For single nutrients, our vitamin D test and iron blood tests are available, and you can see every blood test and price in Chiswick.
