What a session involves

Twenty minutes of light, then back to your day

Kew is one of our closest neighbours. Clients come over from Kew Gardens and Kew Bridge for a 20-minute NovoTHOR session, or for targeted THOR laser treatment on a painful tendon, joint, or the back or neck.

Red light therapy, also called photobiomodulation, uses low-power red and near-infrared light. There is no ultraviolet, so it does not tan or burn the skin.

In the NovoTHOR bed you lie down for 20 minutes while panels of light surround the whole body. You wear protective eyewear, and most people notice mild warmth or nothing at all. The THOR laser works differently: a handheld probe is targeted to the area being treated, such as a knee, a shoulder or the lower back, in a 30-minute session.

Your first visit is 45 minutes and starts with a consultation that covers your health, any medicines that make you sensitive to light, and whether the treatment suits you. It costs £79 for NovoTHOR or £89 for the THOR laser, and you pay at the clinic with no deposit.

For a closer look at how the bed works, read our guide to red light therapy beds, or see the full service page for red light therapy in Chiswick.

Tendon problems

Research suggests photobiomodulation may help painful tendons, such as tennis elbow or an Achilles problem. The THOR laser can be aimed directly at the sore area.

Joint, back and neck pain

For chronic joint pain and long-standing back or neck pain, light therapy may help as part of a wider plan that includes exercise. It is not a cure.

Not sure it suits you?

In the UK, THOR devices are approved for tendinopathies, chronic joint pain, and back and neck pain. For other conditions, this is not an approved use, and we make no treatment claims. If you are not sure, call or enquire on WhatsApp before booking.

See the evidence, including trials where it did not help, in our red light therapy research summary.

Questions

Red light therapy questions from Kew

Is there red light therapy near Kew?

Yes. Omnia Lifestyle offers NovoTHOR whole-body red light and THOR laser treatment in Chiswick, W4. From Kew Gardens it is just two stops on the District line to Turnham Green.

How do I get to Omnia from Kew?

Take the District line from Kew Gardens two stops to Turnham Green, via Gunnersbury. The clinic is a short walk from the station. From Kew Bridge, cross the river into Chiswick by car or bike.

How much is a NovoTHOR session?

Your first NovoTHOR visit is £79 for 45 minutes, including a consultation. After that, a 20-minute session costs £70, or Omnia Red membership gives you 8 sessions a month for £225, about £28 a session. A first THOR laser visit is £89 for 45 minutes, and follow-up sessions are £80 for 30 minutes.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on why you are coming, so there is no fixed number. We agree a plan at your first visit, review how you are doing after a few sessions and stop if it is not helping. For courses, please call the clinic.

Can I combine it with physiotherapy or sports massage?

Yes. Physiotherapy, sports massage and red light therapy are all at our Chiswick clinic, so sessions can be planned together. Light therapy supports, and does not replace, an assessment for pain that is not improving.

Is it the same as a sunbed?

No. A sunbed uses ultraviolet light to tan the skin. The NovoTHOR bed uses red and near-infrared light with no ultraviolet, so it does not tan or burn. You wear protective eyewear during the session.
