NovoTHOR surrounds the whole body with red and near-infrared LED light for 20 minutes. Professional teams use it as part of their training and recovery routines because it treats the whole body at once, takes little time and needs no recovery afterwards. There is no ultraviolet, so it does not tan or burn.
In the UK, THOR devices are approved for tendinopathies, chronic joint pain, and back and neck pain, which are common in sport. Muscle recovery and performance are not approved uses, and we make no treatment claims for them. The research on recovery is mixed, and we explain it honestly below.

The maker says NovoTHOR is used by Olympic athletes and by players and teams in the NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB and MLS, and that half of the 2024 NBA playoff semi-finalists use it.
THOR Photomedicine says it has worked with English Premier League football teams, and that sportswear brand Nike ordered a NovoTHOR for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

That works out at about £28 a session, compared with £70 for a single session. Two sessions a week fits around most training plans, and you book each session online when it suits you.

What it is used for
Achilles, patellar (jumper's knee) and elbow tendon pain are common in sport, and tendinopathies are an approved UK use. Loading exercise remains the main treatment. For one sore tendon, the targeted THOR laser treats the area directly. Read our guide to red light therapy for tendonitis.

At our clinic
45 minutes, £79. We go through your training, any injury, your medicines and any reasons light therapy may not suit you, then you have your first session.
You lie in the bed with protective eyewear while red and near-infrared light covers the whole body. Most people feel gentle warmth or nothing at all.
There is no recovery time, so you can train, work or travel straight afterwards.
Follow-up sessions are £70, or about £28 each with Omnia Red. We review how you are getting on and stop if it is not helping.

There is no fixed schedule. Many people choose two or three sessions a week during a training block, which is why Omnia Red membership gives 8 sessions a month for £225, about £28 a session. We agree a plan at your first visit and review it.

Yes. Physiotherapy, sports massage and red light therapy are all at our Chiswick clinic, so they can be planned around your training. Light therapy supports, and does not replace, an assessment for an injury that is not improving.
Safety
NovoTHOR uses no ultraviolet, and protective eyewear is worn. Tell us before your first session if you take a medicine that makes you sensitive to light, have cancer or are being investigated for it, are pregnant, or have epilepsy triggered by light.
