The short version

What is the treatment for lipoedema in the UK?

Quick answer. Lipoedema treatment in the UK is mainly conservative care: compression garments, movement, skin care, weight management and support, with specialist liposuction for some people with severe symptoms. At Omnia Lifestyle in Chiswick W4, LPG Endermologie, manual lymphatic drainage and Body Ballancer compression are used for comfort alongside this care, not instead of it.
Our approach

How we support lipoedema at Omnia

A plan can use one, two or all three treatments, and Omnia is the only clinic in London offering all three under one roof.

Manual lymphatic drainage

A very light, rhythmic massage. Lipoedema is fat rather than fluid, but PHIN notes that some people find MLD relieves pain and heaviness. £65 for 30 minutes, £90 for 60 minutes. More on MLD.

Body Ballancer compression

Air-filled garments apply waves of compression along the limbs. Lipoedema UK says this kind of device can ease pain, but not everyone tolerates it if limbs are tender. From £45. More on Body Ballancer.

LPG Endermologie

Motorised rollers and controlled suction on the Cellu M6 Infinity, kept gentle on tender tissue, for skin quality and heaviness. £99 for your Discovery Session, then from £70. It is the least proven of the three.

What this will not do. Our treatments do not remove lipoedema fat or reduce the size of your legs or arms. For what lipoedema is, its stages and how it differs from lymphoedema, read lipoedema vs lymphoedema. If you only want MLD or Body Ballancer, call or WhatsApp us and we will book you in.
Your options

Lipoedema treatment options in the UK

There is no single lipoedema treatment. What suits you depends on how severe your symptoms are and how they affect you. This overview includes care we do not provide.

OptionWhat it can doLimitsWhere and cost
Compression garments, including lipoedema compression leggingsEase discomfort and heaviness, and support the tissuesDo not change limb size or shape. Need measuring by a trained personNHS prescription or private. From about £30 for light garments, over £250 made to measure
Movement and a healthy weightSupport joints, mobility and overall healthDiet and exercise do not make lipoedema fat go awaySelf-care, with physiotherapy on referral
Manual lymphatic drainageSome people find it relieves pain and heavinessDoes not remove fat, and the benefit variesOften private, around £60 to £120 a session
Specialist liposuctionCan reduce fat and pain for some peopleSurgery with real risks, often several operations, and compression usually continuesUsually self-funded, several thousands of pounds
LPG EndermologieComfort and skin quality for some clientsNo published trial in lipoedemaOmnia: £99 first visit, then from £70

The NHS also lists skin care with moisturisers and talking therapies, and the charities Lipoedema UK and Talk Lipoedema offer support.

Surgery

Lipoedema surgery in the UK: cost and evidence

Omnia does not offer liposuction, but you should have the full picture.

Liposuction is the only lipoedema treatment that takes the fat out. The NHS says it is for particularly severe symptoms, you may need more than one operation, and it may not be available on the NHS. PHIN says it is usually self-funded and likely to cost several thousands of pounds.

NICE guidance from 2022, now numbered HTG618, rated the evidence on safety and efficacy as inadequate, raised concerns about major adverse events and said the procedure should only be used in research, in specialist centres.

In September 2026 The Lancet published LIPLEG, a German trial of 410 women. At 12 months, 68% of those who had liposuction reported a meaningful drop in pain, against 8% who continued conservative care alone. Adverse events were more common after surgery, at 47% against 21%, most women needed several procedures, and longer-term results are not yet known. Lipoedema UK reports that NICE will now review its guidance.

That applies to the care we offer too: conservative care alone changed pain very little in that trial. If a surgical opinion would serve you better, we will say so.

The evidence

Does LPG Endermologie help lipoedema? The evidence is thin

We searched the medical literature in November 2026 and found no published clinical trial of LPG Endermologie for lipoedema. Neither the NHS nor Lipoedema UK lists it among lipoedema treatments.

Research on LPG is mostly about cellulite, where evidence is mixed. Read what the research says.

So any benefit for lipoedema rests on clinical experience, not trial evidence. Our team treats lipoedema, and we offer LPG as an optional extra for skin quality and comfort rather than a core treatment. Lipoedema tissue can be tender and bruise easily, so we start gently. If LPG is uncomfortable or is not helping, we will tell you and change the plan.

Where to start

Diagnosis comes from a GP or specialist, not from us

Searching for a lipoedema clinic near you? Start with your GP. There are no specific tests for lipoedema, so diagnosis rests on a clinical assessment.

  1. See your GP. Lipoedema UK suggests asking for "suspected lipoedema" to be written on your file if you cannot get a diagnosis.
  2. Ask about referral. Lipoedema UK says there are no specialist lipoedema clinics in the NHS, so a GP may refer you to a local lymphoedema clinic, although not all accept lipoedema.
  3. Get compression measured. A trained professional should assess and measure you, because the wrong garment can make things worse.
  4. Add supportive care if you want it. Bring your diagnosis and any specialist advice to your first visit, and check the qualifications of any private therapist.
Your first visit

Your Discovery Session: 60 minutes, £99

  1. Consultation. Your goals, your health history, any medication and what you have already tried.
  2. Assessment. Skin quality, priority areas and measurements, with photographs and a Styku 3D scan where useful, so progress is measured rather than guessed.
  3. A full treatment. Not a demonstration. You change into the Endermowear body suit and have a proper session, face, body or both.
  4. An honest plan. What is realistic, roughly how many sessions it would take, and whether LPG suits you at all.

Most people come weekly for a course, then monthly to maintain results. See how many Endermologie sessions you need.

  • Discovery Session with consultation and full treatment, 60 min£99
  • Follow-up session, 35 min£70
  • Follow-up session, 45 min£90
  • Follow-up session, 50 min£100
  • Follow-up session, 60 min£120
  • Courses of sessionsonly if you want one

You pay after your treatment, with nothing to pay upfront. Follow-up length depends on the areas treated.

Who this is not for

When Omnia is not the right first step

You want smaller legs

If your goal is to reduce size or take fat away, our treatments will not do that. Ask your GP about a specialist surgical opinion.

You have no diagnosis yet

See your GP first if you have heavy, painful legs or arms. These treatments should not delay an assessment.

You need medical care now

If your legs are swollen, red, hot and painful with flu-like symptoms, ask for an urgent GP appointment or use NHS 111, as this may be cellulitis. Get same-day advice for one swollen, painful leg.

LPG is not used on the abdomen in pregnancy, or with active cancer, infection, phlebitis or a blood clot, open wounds or inflamed skin. With a circulatory or blood disorder, recent surgery, a pacemaker or an implanted device, get your doctor's or surgeon's advice first.

Questions

Lipoedema treatment questions

Can I get lipoedema treatment on the NHS?

In part. Your GP may refer you to a specialist, and compression garments are available on prescription. Referral is usually to a local lymphoedema clinic, and services vary by area. The NHS says liposuction may not be available.

How do you get rid of lipoedema?

No treatment makes lipoedema go away. Compression, movement, skin care and support help manage it, and diet and exercise do not make lipoedema fat go away. Liposuction can take fat out, but PHIN notes the fat build-up can return.

Does LPG Endermologie help lipoedema?

We found no published clinical trial of LPG for lipoedema, so the evidence is thin. We offer it as an optional extra for comfort and skin quality. It does not remove lipoedema fat.

Does Omnia diagnose lipoedema?

No. Diagnosis comes from a GP or specialist. If you have a diagnosis, bring the details to your first visit.

Is it lipoedema or lipedema?

They are the same condition. Lipoedema is the UK spelling and lipedema is the US spelling, so you will see both in treatment guides.

How much does lipoedema surgery cost in the UK?

PHIN says liposuction for lipoedema is usually fully self-funded and likely to cost several thousands of pounds. Ask for a written quote that covers every operation and your aftercare.

Do lipoedema compression leggings help?

They can reduce discomfort and heaviness and support the tissues, but they do not change the size or shape of your legs. Lipoedema UK advises being measured by an experienced professional. Ordinary activewear gives lighter support.

Can you treat lipoedema in the arms?

The NHS says lipoedema sometimes affects the arms. Tell us which areas are affected and your therapist will plan around them. The aim is comfort, not removing fat.
