Carmelite Mission Sunday: A Milestone 50th Anniversary

Heart Of Africa Award

Many friends of the Missions gathered on the first Saturday of the missionary month in Arenzano for the traditional “Carmelite Mission Sunday.” This year’s event held exceptional significance as we celebrated the landmark 50th anniversary of the founding of our Missions.

The day opened with a solemn Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Anastasio Roggero, joined by Fr. Giulio Camia, Fr. Davide Sollami, Fr. Roberto Nava, and Fr. Lionello Giraudo, with animation by Fr. Piergiorgio Ladone. Following the service, video-documentaries and a photographic exhibition shared the most moving images and stories captured throughout these fifty years of missionary life.

The thought was not only turned to the past, but thanks to the connection from Central Africa with Fr. Federico Trinchero, we were able to have some more news on the current situation, with particular focus on the work in progress of construction of the convent at Carmel in Bangui. The long-awaited delivery of the “Heart of Africa” award, after having taken into consideration several reports of people who have distinguished themselves, crowned our meeting.

This year’s award was given to Francis Mirandah of London, with special mentions to the volunteers of AMICI PER LA VITA ONLUS for the collaboration started in 2006 and still lives today, for the charity events aimed at donating scholarships to young Central Africans, to Tonia Valloscuro for the enthusiasm, commitment and constancy with which she helps in the missionary exhibition and to the Bonaita family for the voluntary service for severely disabled children of the Piccolo Cottolengo.
