Standard Screen Plus blood test in Chiswick

A 53-marker blood and urine screen covering blood count, cholesterol, blood sugar, liver, kidneys, bone, thyroid, iron, vitamin D and inflammation, with the tumour-associated marker CA 125, for a thorough annual check.

What the test measures

Standard Screen Plus builds on a core annual check by adding a full thyroid profile, with thyroid antibodies, plus vitamin D, ferritin and two measures of inflammation. The base of the screen is a full blood count, a cholesterol profile with triglycerides, fasting glucose and HbA1c for blood sugar, and liver, kidney and bone chemistry including electrolytes, calcium and phosphate.

It also includes CA 125, a tumour-associated marker that can be raised for many reasons, and a urine dipstick analysis looking at protein, glucose, blood, white cells and other signs that may point to a kidney or urinary issue. Together these give a broad view of how your main organs and systems are working.

Your price includes the sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review of your result and a GP feedback report on request. Your practitioner explains each section in plain language and highlights anything worth following up.

Who it is for

  • You want a yearly check that goes further than a basic screen.
  • You have symptoms such as tiredness, weight change or feeling cold and want your thyroid included.
  • You spend little time outdoors and would like your vitamin D and iron stores checked.
  • You have a family history of heart disease or diabetes and want cholesterol and blood sugar tracked.
  • You would like a broad picture but do not need a full sex hormone panel.

Understanding your result

Your report groups each result under its body system and shows each value against the laboratory reference range. A single result just outside the range is common and often harmless, while patterns, such as a raised TSH with positive thyroid antibodies, or low ferritin with a low haemoglobin, tend to be more meaningful.

CA 125 can be raised by periods, endometriosis, pregnancy, fibroids or inflammation, so it is never used alone and a raised level needs clinical assessment rather than worry. Anything outside the range is a prompt for discussion, not a diagnosis.

Preparing for your test

Please fast for 8 to 10 hours before your appointment, drinking water only, because glucose and triglycerides are affected by food. A morning appointment is easiest. If you take biotin or a hair, skin and nails supplement, pause it for at least two days beforehand where it is safe to do so, as biotin can affect thyroid results. Bring a midstream urine sample in a sterile pot, or provide one at the clinic. If you take thyroid medicine, ask us when to take it on the day.

If you would like hormones added, Advanced GP2 includes these markers and more, while Omnia Signature is our most complete check. You can also compare every blood test and price in Chiswick.
