Frequently asked

Clinical fitness programme vs personal trainer: what is the difference?

The short answer

A personal trainer designs and coaches exercise sessions. A clinical fitness and nutrition programme starts with measurement, InBody body composition, blood tests where useful, movement analysis, and is led by clinicians who can address pain, injury, medical conditions and nutrition alongside training. The exercise is one component of a plan rather than the whole plan, and progress is measured rather than estimated.

What a personal trainer does

A good personal trainer writes a training programme, coaches technique, keeps you accountable and adjusts sessions as you progress. For someone who is healthy, injury-free and mainly needs structure and motivation, that is often exactly what is needed, and it works.

What a clinical programme adds

Measurement first: InBody body composition to see muscle, fat and water rather than weight; Styku 3D scanning for shape and posture; Randox blood testing where iron, thyroid, vitamin D, cholesterol or blood sugar might be limiting progress; Pixformance movement analysis to identify weaknesses and asymmetries before they become injuries. Clinical oversight: physiotherapists and practitioners who can treat the knee or back that keeps interrupting training, and who know how to programme safely around medical conditions. Nutrition built into the plan rather than bolted on. Recovery tools such as red light therapy and compression therapy. Reviews against measured change every four to six weeks.

Which suits you

If you are fit, uninjured and just want to train harder, a personal trainer is the simpler and cheaper choice. If you have a history of injuries, a medical condition, a plateau you cannot explain, a body composition goal rather than a weight goal, or you have tried programmes before and they did not hold, the clinical route addresses the reasons those things happen.
