Weight Loss Progress Screen blood test in Chiswick

A 53-marker blood test for monitoring a weight loss programme or medication, tracking metabolism, insulin resistance, hormones, pancreas, kidneys, liver and key nutrients as your weight changes.

What the test measures

Once you are underway with a weight loss plan, regular checks help show progress and pick up anything that needs attention. This screen tracks glucose, HbA1c, insulin and HOMA-IR, along with cholesterol, ApoB and hsCRP, a marker of low-grade inflammation that often falls with weight loss.

It includes lipase and pancreatic amylase, which give a view of the pancreas, a useful check for some weight loss medicines. Kidney markers, including a urine microalbumin ratio, liver enzymes and electrolytes help monitor safety, while thyroid, sex hormones, ferritin, magnesium and vitamin D show how your body is adapting to eating less. A full blood count is included too.

Your price includes the sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review of your result and a GP feedback report on request.

Who it is for

  • You are on a weight loss programme or medication and want regular monitoring.
  • You had a starter screen and want to compare results.
  • You have lost a lot of weight and want to check your nutrients and hormones.
  • Your prescriber has asked for pancreas, kidney or liver markers to be checked.
  • You have type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes and want to see how blood sugar is changing.

Understanding your result

Your practitioner compares your results with your previous ones, where available, and with the laboratory reference range. Falling HbA1c, insulin, triglycerides and liver enzymes are common signs of progress. Low ferritin, magnesium or vitamin D may need attention if you are eating less.

Raised lipase or amylase can occur for several reasons. If you have severe tummy pain that spreads to your back, with or without vomiting, seek urgent medical help, as this can be a sign of pancreatitis. Results outside the range are for discussion, not a diagnosis.

Preparing for your test

Please fast for 8 to 10 hours beforehand, drinking only water, so that glucose, insulin and triglycerides are accurate. A morning appointment gives the most reliable hormone readings. Bring a midstream urine sample for the microalbumin test, or provide one at the clinic. Continue your weight loss medication as prescribed, and tell us which medicine and dose you take. Please also stop biotin for two days beforehand where that is safe.

For a focused look at the pancreas, see our pancreatic health tests. Kidney markers are also available on their own through our kidney function tests. Or look over every blood test and price in Chiswick.
