The Muscle and Joint Screen combines muscle, rheumatology, kidney, liver, iron and vitamin D markers, for people with aches, stiffness or joint pain that has no clear cause.
Aches and stiffness can come from the muscles, the joints, the bones or from wider health issues such as low vitamin D, low iron or thyroid changes. This screen looks across several of these areas at once. Creatine kinase reflects muscle strain or damage, and uric acid helps when gout is a possibility.
Immune and rheumatology markers include rheumatoid factor, complement components C3 and C4, and immunoglobulins IgA, IgG and IgM, with CRP for inflammation. Kidney and liver markers, adjusted calcium, phosphate and magnesium, iron studies and vitamin D complete the picture, as these can all influence muscle and bone comfort.
The price includes your sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a review of your result with an Omnia practitioner, and a GP feedback report on request.
Your report shows each marker against the laboratory reference range. A raised creatine kinase is common after exercise but can also point to muscle inflammation or a medicine side effect. Positive rheumatoid factor, low complement or unusual immunoglobulins are clues that an immune process may be involved and often lead to more specific tests.
Low vitamin D, low magnesium or low iron stores are common and treatable contributors to aches. Whatever the numbers show, they are a basis for discussion, not a diagnosis. Persistent joint swelling or weakness should be assessed by your GP.
No fasting is required. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting and intramuscular injections for 48 hours before your appointment, as these can raise creatine kinase. Stop iron supplements for 24 hours, and tell us about statins, steroids, diuretics or gout treatments, which can affect results.
If you prefer a shorter set of markers, the Muscle and Joint Check covers the essentials. For a wider review, Advanced GP3 includes these and many more, and Sports Performance suits people who train regularly. Alternatively, take a look at every blood test and price in Chiswick.
The Muscle and Joint Screen costs £129 at our Chiswick clinic. This includes your blood sample, analysis of all 31 markers at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review and a GP feedback report on request.
Creatine kinase leaks from muscle when it is strained or damaged. Exercise is the most common reason, but persistently high levels with weakness or pain need follow-up.
No blood test diagnoses arthritis alone. Results are read with your symptoms and examination, and may guide whether imaging or a specialist opinion is needed.
The Check focuses on four core markers. The Screen adds kidney, liver, iron, vitamin D, immune and mineral markers for a much broader view.
