A blood test measuring five metals, including lead and mercury, alongside red cell levels of essential minerals such as zinc, selenium and magnesium, for people concerned about exposure at work or at home.
This panel measures aluminium, chromium, lead, manganese and mercury in blood. These metals can enter the body through work, hobbies, old paint or pipes, certain foods, supplements, cosmetics or medical implants. In high amounts, some can affect the nerves, kidneys, blood and other organs.
It also measures calcium, copper, magnesium, selenium and zinc inside red blood cells. Red cell levels reflect body stores over recent months better than standard serum tests, and they help show whether essential minerals are balanced. Testing both groups together gives a fuller picture of metal exposure and mineral status.
Your price includes the sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review of your result and a GP feedback report on request. Where exposure is linked to work, your employer occupational health service may also need to be involved.
Your report shows each metal against the laboratory reference range. Low background levels are normal, as everyone is exposed to small amounts. A raised level suggests recent or ongoing exposure, and your practitioner will help you think about possible sources and whether a repeat test or GP referral is needed.
For the red cell minerals, low levels may point to dietary gaps, while high levels can come from supplements. A result outside the range is a prompt for discussion, not a diagnosis, and treatment for raised metal levels should only be given under medical supervision.
No fasting is needed. Avoid eating fish and seafood for 3 days before your test, as they can raise mercury and other metal levels temporarily. Do not take mineral or multivitamin supplements on the day of the test. Tell us if you have recently had a scan with contrast dye or have any metal implants, as we may advise on timing. If you think you have had a sudden high exposure and feel unwell, seek urgent medical advice.
For a wider look at minerals and vitamins, see our nutritional and digestive health testing. Kidney health is also relevant to clearing metals, and our kidney function tests cover it. Our hub page lists every blood test and price in Chiswick.
The Heavy Metals Panel costs £695. This includes your blood sample at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review and a GP feedback report on request.
Yes. Avoid fish and seafood for 3 days beforehand, as they can raise mercury and some other metals for a short time.
It includes chromium, which is relevant, but hip implant checks usually also include cobalt. Ask your surgeon which tests are needed and we can advise when you book.
We do not use this test to support detox or chelation. Any treatment for raised metals should be guided by a doctor.
