Our chlamydia and gonorrhoea test checks a simple urine sample for both infections at once using a sensitive PCR method, giving a reliable result from about 2 weeks after sex, with a confidential practitioner review.
Chlamydia and gonorrhoea are bacterial sexually transmitted infections that often occur together. Most people with chlamydia have no symptoms, and not everyone with gonorrhoea gets symptoms either, so many infections are only found by testing. Both are treated with antibiotics. Left untreated, they can spread and cause longer term problems, including pelvic inflammatory disease and fertility problems.
This test uses PCR, which detects the genetic material of each bacterium. The standard version uses a urine sample. A swab version is also available at the same price, and your practitioner can advise which suits you. NHS guidance notes that a swab from the throat or anus may be needed if those areas could be affected.
Testing at Omnia is confidential and non-judgemental. The price includes your sample collected at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a review of your result with an Omnia practitioner, and a GP feedback report on request. No GP referral is needed and most results are ready within a few working days.
Free testing is available from NHS sexual health clinics. Private testing suits people who want speed, privacy or a booked clinic appointment.
Your report shows a separate result for each infection.
Get help promptly: if you have symptoms such as a burning feeling when you pee, unusual discharge, pain in the lower tummy, bleeding after sex or between periods, or pain and swelling in the testicles, see a sexual health clinic or your GP now. Treatment can start before results are back.
No fasting is needed. Note the date of your last possible exposure so your practitioner can check that 2 weeks have passed, and mention any symptoms or recent antibiotics. Your practitioner will explain how to give the sample.
For a wider check, compare all STI tests, including screens that add HIV and syphilis, or book an HIV test at the same visit. You can also see every blood test and price in Chiswick.
The chlamydia and gonorrhoea test costs £59 at our Chiswick clinic, for either the urine or swab version. This includes your sample, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a confidential practitioner review and a GP feedback report on request.
Urine suits most people. A urine test may not pick up an infection in the throat or anus, so if you have had oral or anal sex, tell your practitioner, who will advise which swab is needed or whether an NHS sexual health clinic is better placed to test those sites. Both versions cost the same.
Yes, and most people who test positive have no symptoms at all. No GP referral is needed.
Both infections are treated with antibiotics. Avoid sex until you and your partner have finished treatment and been given the all clear.
