A private cervical screening test combining an HPV DNA screen with cervical cytology, taken in a confidential appointment, for those who want an alternative or addition to routine NHS screening.
Cervical screening checks the health of the cervix, the lower part of the womb. This test looks for two things in one sample. The HPV DNA screen detects high-risk types of human papillomavirus, a very common virus that usually clears on its own but, if it persists, can cause changes to cervical cells. Cervical cytology looks at the cells themselves under a microscope for any abnormal changes.
Finding HPV or cell changes early means they can be monitored or treated before they cause problems. The test is not a test for cancer, and it does not check for other sexually transmitted infections. The sample is taken with a small soft brush during a short appointment in a private room, and you can ask for a chaperone.
Your price includes the sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review of your result and a GP feedback report on request. Appointments are confidential and non-judgemental.
Your report shows whether high-risk HPV was detected and whether any cell changes were seen. Most people are HPV negative with normal cells. If HPV is found with normal cells, a repeat test is usually advised to see whether the virus has cleared. If HPV and cell changes are both seen, the usual next step is colposcopy, a closer look at the cervix, arranged through your GP or a specialist.
Cell changes are common and most never turn into anything serious, especially when they are monitored. A positive result is a prompt for discussion and follow-up, not a diagnosis. Please keep attending NHS screening when invited.
Try to book when you are not having your period, ideally around the middle of your cycle. For two days before your test, avoid vaginal medicines, lubricants, creams and pessaries, as they can affect the sample, and avoid sex for 24 hours beforehand if you can. If you are pregnant, or have recently given birth, please tell us, as screening is usually delayed until about 12 weeks after the birth. Wear clothing that is easy to remove below the waist.
If you would also like a sexual health check, our STI tests cover chlamydia, gonorrhoea and more. Our full range includes every blood test and price in Chiswick.
Cervical Screening with HPV costs £299. This includes your sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review and a GP feedback report on request.
No. It can be an addition or a private alternative, but we recommend you continue to attend NHS screening when you are invited.
It means a high-risk type of HPV was found. This is common and usually clears by itself, and your practitioner will explain whether a repeat test or colposcopy is advised.
Most people find it a little uncomfortable rather than painful, and it takes only a few minutes. You can ask to stop at any time.
