Frequently asked

What is a Styku 3D body scan?

The short answer

Styku is a 3D body scanner. You stand on a slowly rotating platform for about 35 seconds while an infrared camera captures your body shape, producing a precise 3D model with hundreds of circumference measurements, body shape analysis and an estimate of body fat. Repeat scans overlay on each other so you can see exactly where your shape has changed. It is used for tracking body contour, posture and fitness progress.

How it works

Styku uses the same depth-sensing camera technology found in motion capture. You stand still on a turntable in fitted clothing while it rotates once. The camera captures millions of data points, which are turned into a 3D model of your body accurate to a few millimetres. From that model the software extracts circumferences at the chest, waist, hips, thighs, arms and calves, calculates surface area and volume, estimates body fat using validated equations, and assesses posture and symmetry.

What it is used for

Tracking change in body shape and measurements during a training, nutrition or treatment programme, such as a course of LPG Endermologie. Visualising posture and asymmetry. Setting measurable goals, since the software can project a target shape. Motivation, because seeing two scans overlaid is more compelling than a number on a scale.

What it does not do

It does not measure what is inside: muscle mass, body water or visceral fat. Its body fat figure is an estimate from shape. For internal composition, InBody is the right tool, and the two are complementary: Styku shows what has changed on the outside, InBody shows what changed on the inside.

The scan

Wear fitted clothing such as shorts and a sports top. Stand in the marked position with arms slightly away from the body. The platform rotates once, taking around 35 seconds. Results are available immediately and stored for comparison.

At Omnia

Styku scans at our Chiswick clinic are used alongside InBody in our Fitness and Nutrition programme and to track Endermologie and body contour treatment. The two scans together take under ten minutes.
