Frequently asked

Styku vs InBody: what is the difference?

The short answer

They measure different things. InBody measures what your body is made of: muscle mass, fat mass, body water and visceral fat, in each segment, using bioelectrical impedance. Styku measures what your body looks like: a 3D model with precise circumferences, shape and posture, using an infrared camera. InBody tracks composition; Styku tracks contour. Together they give the full picture, which is why we use both.

InBody: inside

The InBody BWA passes small electrical currents through the body via hand and foot electrodes and measures resistance in each segment. From that it calculates skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass and percentage, visceral fat, intracellular and extracellular water, phase angle and basal metabolic rate. It tells you whether weight change is muscle, fat or fluid, and where. It is the tool for composition, fluid balance and rehabilitation.

Styku: outside

Styku captures a 3D image of your body as you rotate on a platform and extracts hundreds of measurements: waist, hips, chest, thighs, arms, plus surface area, volume, posture and symmetry. It estimates body fat from shape but does not measure it directly. Overlaying two scans shows exactly where your shape has changed. It is the tool for contour, measurements and visual progress.

When each is more useful

Training for muscle gain or fat loss: InBody for the composition, Styku to see the shape. Rehabilitation after injury: InBody, to track limb muscle. Fluid retention or lymphatic treatment: InBody, for extracellular water. Body contour treatment such as Endermologie: Styku, for circumferences and shape. Posture: Styku. Motivation: Styku, because the visual overlay is compelling. Metabolic rate for nutrition planning: InBody.

Why we use both

A waist that is two centimetres smaller could be fat loss, fluid loss or muscle loss. InBody tells you which. Muscle mass that is up two kilos is more meaningful when Styku shows where it sits. Together, the scans take under ten minutes and answer both questions.
