Who sees your results
When you book a private blood test, the results are sent to you and reviewed with you by the clinic. They do not go to your GP or onto your NHS record unless you choose to share them. This gives you control over who sees them.
Sharing results with your GP
There are good reasons to share a result, particularly if anything is outside the reference range or you are being treated for a condition. You can take your report to an appointment, or ask your surgery how they prefer to receive it. Your GP decides what to do with a private result. Many will act on a report from an accredited laboratory, but some will repeat a test on the NHS first, for example to confirm a borderline result or because their local laboratory uses different ranges. That is normal and not a sign that the private result was wrong.
If a result needs action
If a result suggests something that needs prompt medical attention, your practitioner will tell you and advise you to see your GP or, if urgent, to use NHS 111 or emergency services. A private test does not replace your GP care.
