A blood test measuring measles, mumps and rubella IgG antibodies to check your immunity, often needed before pregnancy, travel, university or working in healthcare and with children.
Measles, mumps and rubella are viral infections that spread easily. The MMR vaccine protects against all three, and immunity can also come from past infection. This test measures IgG antibodies to each virus, the long-lasting antibodies that show your immune system has met the virus before through vaccination or infection.
Each of the three is reported separately, so you can see whether you are protected against all of them. This is useful if you are unsure whether you had both MMR doses as a child, if your records are incomplete, or if your employer or a university needs proof of immunity.
Your price includes the sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review of your result and a GP feedback report on request.
Each virus is reported as immune, not immune or equivocal, against the laboratory reference range. A positive IgG usually means you are protected. A negative or equivocal result may mean you are not fully protected, and the NHS recommends the MMR vaccine for adults without evidence of two doses.
This test does not diagnose a current infection. If you think you have measles, mumps or rubella now, call your GP or 111 before visiting, so they can avoid exposing others. A result is a prompt for discussion, not a diagnosis.
You can eat and drink as normal. If you have had the MMR vaccine in the past four weeks, or immunoglobulin or a blood transfusion in the past few months, please tell us, as these can affect results. If you are pregnant, let us know, as the MMR vaccine is not given during pregnancy and your practitioner will advise on next steps.
If you are preparing for a pregnancy, our fertility blood tests look at hormones and general health. Alternatively, see every blood test and price in Chiswick.
The MMR Immunity Check costs £189. It includes your blood sample at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory, a practitioner review and a GP feedback report on request.
Your practitioner will explain your result. The NHS offers the MMR vaccine to adults who are not protected, and your GP can arrange it.
No. You can eat and drink normally before this test.
Your report shows the result for each virus. Check with your employer or university whether they need a specific format or additional tests.
