A blood test for HER2 ECD, used to help monitor people with an established diagnosis of HER2 positive cancer, alongside their oncology care.
HER2 is a protein that helps cells grow, divide and repair. In some cancers, including HER2 positive breast cancer, cells make too much HER2. Part of the protein, the extracellular domain (HER2 ECD), can be released into the bloodstream and measured.
The HER2 ECD blood test is used to help monitor disease activity and response to treatment in people who already have a cancer diagnosis. It is not a screening test and it cannot show whether someone without a diagnosis has cancer. Levels can also be raised in some non cancerous conditions, including liver disease and diabetes.
The price covers your sample taken at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory and a clear results report. If you would like a doctor's view, a GP review and consultation can be arranged on request, at an additional cost.
Your report shows your HER2 ECD level alongside the laboratory reference range. Changes over time are usually more meaningful than one result, and any result should be discussed with the oncology team who knows your history and treatment.
A rising level is a prompt for discussion with your team, not a diagnosis of progression. A normal level does not rule out active disease.
No fasting is needed and you should take your usual medicines. We confirm the expected timing of your results when you book.
HER2 ECD is sometimes looked at with other markers. See our tumour marker panel, or browse every blood test and price in Chiswick.
Outside London? We can arrange this test at a partner clinic near you, at the same price. See private blood tests across the UK.
The HER2 ECD test is £159. It includes the sample at our Chiswick clinic, analysis at the Randox accredited laboratory and your results report. A GP review and consultation are available if you need them, at an additional cost.

No. A biopsy test looks at HER2 in the tumour tissue to guide treatment choices. This blood test measures HER2 ECD released into the blood.
No GP referral is needed to book. We recommend sharing your results with your oncology team.
